Thomas R. Scott, Ph.D.

Vice-President for Research, San Diego State University; Interim Chief Executive Officer, SDSU Research Foundation

Dr. Scott is a neuroscientist specializing in sensory processes, with a particular focus on the sense of taste and the neural control of eating.

He was a member of the faculty of the University of Delaware from 1970-2000, serving as Chair of the Psychology Department (1983-1992), and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies (1992-1997).

Dr. Scott has been elected President of two national organizations: The Association for Chemoreception Sciences (1997-98) and the Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior (2000-2001).

In 2000, Dr. Scott moved to San Diego State University as Dean of Sciences. In 2005 he was appointed Vice-President for Research, and in 2006, interim Chief Executive Officer of the SDSU Research Foundation, a $200 million non-profit foundation that manages SDSU’s contract and grant activity.

Dr. Scott has published 125 scientific papers and serves on the editorial boards of four journals. He has received the University of Delaware’s Excellence-in-Teaching Award (1981), and has been voted SDSU’s Favorite Faculty Member (2003) by the resident student body.

The lead supporters of the Ethics Center are UC San Diego, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, San Diego State University, and the University of San Diego.
