During his 25-year career at the forefront of evolutionary computing, Dr. David Fogel has used advanced simulation techniques to generate unique solutions to complex problems in medicine, homeland security, and finance. The choices and routes to those solutions have sometimes involved ethical dilemmas. Developers of new technologies often grapple with quandaries regarding finances, regulation, licensing, and marketing. Dr. Fogel will begin with a brief overview of evolutionary computing before addressing specific cases that illustrate issues of principle, and then he will engage the audience in a discussion of an engineering ethical dilemma he is facing currently.
