COSMOS Ethics in Science and Technology Awards: 2017

In collaboration with the California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) for high school students, the Ethics Center hosted its seventh annual COSMOS Ethics in Science Essay Contest. This year, it awarded five grand prize winners for their excellent analyses of ethics in science and technology research.

Results of the 2017 COSMOS Ethics in Science Essay Contest:

First Place: Benjamin Au, Newbury Park High School, Newbury Park, CA was awarded fist place for his essay titles, “Analyzing the Sustainability of Continued Overfishing Practices”

Second Place:  Catherine Hwu, Lynbrook High, San Jose, CA was awarded second place with her essay titled “Power of Integrity in Product Releases”

Second Place: Disha Zambani, Canyon High, Anaheim, CA was awarded second place with her essay titled “Surgical Assistant Robots: A Closer Look at the DaVinci Surgical System”

Third Place: Lucy Song, Irvington High, Fremont, CA was awarded third place with her essay titled “Scanning Privacy”

Third Place: Mariamma Vazhaeparambil, Harker School, Saratoga, CA was awarded third place with her essay titled “Music Piracy and the Economic Ramifications”
