In collaboration with the California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS) for high school students, the Ethics Center hosted its sixth annual COSMOS Ethics in Science Essay Contest. This year, it awarded three grand prize winners for their excellent analyses of ethics in science and technology research.
Results of the 2016 COSMOS Ethics in Science Essay Contest:
First Place: Brian Nguyen, Rio Mesa High, Oxnard, CA was awarded first place with his essay titled “Nuclear Power: Energy of the Future”
Second Place: Zhixue (Mary) Wang, Homestead High School, Cupertino, CA was awarded second place with her essay titled “The Duty of an Engineer: Weighing Progress Against Safety”
Third Place: Shifali Kerudi, BASIS Independent Silicon Valley, San Jose, CA, was awarded third place with her essay titled “The Sustainability of the Animal Agribusiness Industry”
