
Rabbi Ralph Dalin RABBI RALPH A. DALIN graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in history. He was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, where he also earned a master's degree and completed doctoral studies in the field of liturgy. Rabbi Dalin is the Jewish Community Chaplain for San Diego County and Rabbinic Director of Ohr Ami - The Jewish Hospice Program. He is a member of the faculty of the Florence Melton Adult Jewish Mini-School and has served as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego. Dr. John Gillman Vitas Innovative Hospice Care John Gillman , Ph.D., is a supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education at VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, a nationally recognized hospice program. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Louvain, Belgium, and is currently a lecturer in Religious Studies at San Diego State University . In April he co-presented a seminar on “Spiritual and Cultural Sensitivity in End-of-Life Decision Making” at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization's annual conference in Atlanta , GA. He is the author of several publications including Luke: Stories of Joy and Salvation (2002).Professor Khaleel Mohammed Department of Religious Studies San Diego State University ![]() Khaleel Mohammed, PH. D, McGill University (2001). Asst. Professor of Religion. specializes in Islam, Islamic Law, Comparative Religion; he teaches courses in world religions, the Qu'ran, and Sex and Gender in Islam. Professor Lance Nelson Department of Religious Studies University of San Diego ![]() Lance E. Nelson, who received his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from McMaster University , is Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of San Diego , where he teaches courses on world and Asian religions. Dr. Nelson's research focuses on medieval Hindu theology. His writings on aspects of South Asian religious and philosophical thought have appeared in books and scholarly journals in the United States and India . Dr. Nelson is a past-president of the Society for Hindu-Christian Studies. Dr. Gerard Reed Professor of Philosophy and Religion School of Theology and Christian Ministry Point Loma Nazarene University Professor David has completed 40 years of college-level teaching in three institutions of the Church of the Nazarene. His Ph.D. at the University of Oklahoma was in history, with American Indian history as his main focus. He also has a M.A. in religion. He has taught a mixture of history (largely Church history here at PLNU) and philosophy (Introduction and Ethics) courses. He has written three books--two on C.S. Lewis, the last titled C.S. Lewis Explores Vice and Virtue. Professor Karma Lekshe Tsomo Department of Religious Studies University of San Diego Assistant Professor, Department of Theology & Moderator: Lawrence M. Hinman University of San Diego Larry Hinman is a Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Values Institute at the University of San Diego, and also is a member of the Executive Committee of the Center for Ethics in Science and Technology. His principal areas of interest are ethical theory and applied ethics, and he is the author of Ethics: A Pluralistic Approach to Moral Theory (3rd ed.) and Contemporary Moral Issues (3rd. ed.). |

Public Lectures The Ethics Center sponsors public lectures, often in conjunction with other local organizations such as the SDSTC (UCSD), The Burnham Institute and the Values Institute (USD) Stake Holder Events The Ethics Center regularly sponsors stake-holder events, which typically involve a local group of 40-50 individuals along with a distinguished visiting leader in ethics. Past events have included Thomas Murray, President of the Hastings Center, and William Hurlbut, Professor of Medicine at Stanford and member of the President's Commission on Bioethics. Focus Groups In order to assess the needs of or local community and also to develop local communities of individuals who share a particular interest in ethics, science and technology (i.e., religious leaders, health care personnel), we hold periodic focus groups that are devoted to the conjunction of ethics, science, and technology. |
